FQ13 Alignment

This week I have learned a lot about how to align a truck. I learned that you first have to start with the front axle and have to drive the truck in forward so the wheels set how they normally drive down the road. After the front axle is aligned then you can work your way back from there.

FQ13 Load Sensing

This will I learned about the shuttle valve that controls the pressure change to the main valve. There was a bad o'ring for that valve so the pressure was staying at idle and not going up causing the processor it's in to not feed logs.

FQ13 Electronic Brake Booster

This week I have learned a lot about electronic brake boosters and the way they work. I put together a electronic brake boosters that runs of the main reservoir of ATF for the entire machine. The machine is a champion grader that has a electronic brake booster that goes into the normal booster in case of engine shut off. It's amazing how simple the designee of the system is and how well it works.

FQ13 Parisitic Draws

I learned about parasitic draws this week and all the ways to find them. It helped to think clearly and logically when finding the draw. It's easy to get frustrated trying to find the draw but if you keep a clear head and work through the processes to find the draw it becomes much easier. what hindered me at first was I was trying to think of all the possibilities before testing any circuits. From now on I will just think of the process of testing and making sure to start at the battery and to remember most modern cars take time to time out which can make it hard to sort out the draw from the car not timing out.

Logging and Hours

These past few weeks I have learned a lot interning on logging equipment. Some of the things I have learned are how to torch thick pieces of metal, air arch, how to put together a chain box on a grader, how to punch out inner links to replace with half links, replace track pads, track rollers, switch grapples, how a processor works, how to program a processor, and how to change out a cab on a truck.

SPQ13 PM Greasing

During PM on the Peterbilt I greased 51 zerk fitting. Some of the fittings were really straight forward and out in the open but the were a few hidden in tight places. Here are some picture of some easy ones to find and some more difficult ones.

This is a remote greasing plate for some harder to reach zerk fitting.
This fitting was on the right side rear drum brake arm and it was tucked under everything and would be easy to miss.

Usually right here there would be two zerk fitting for the transmission and the throughout bearing but this truck had a remote greasing plate by the engine for quick access

SPQ13 PM Filters

The oil filter is Fleetguard LF9001. This filter needs to be changed every oil change. The fuel filter is Fleetguard FS19764. The diesel exhaust fluid filter is Fleetguard A028Y794. The air filter in the system has a suction gauge that will read red when the filter starts to clog up.

SPQ13 PM Oils

Engine:
The ISX15 uses Delo 400 LE Sae 15w-40 oil and needs to be changed every 400 hours or 15,000 miles. The Delo MSDS is here: https://cglapps.chevron.com/msdspds/MSDSDetailPage.aspx?docDataId=302386. The oil capacity is 11 gal.

Transmission:
Eaton Fuller Fro-16210c transmission. Before checking level, engine must be idling in neutral for at least 2 minutes and lubricant temperature must be between 60° and 120° F [15.5° and 48.8° C]. engine oil type SAE 50 (HD Engine Oil), Mil2104H, Cat To-4 (SAE 40 - SAE 50). Intervals are every 60,000 miles or 1 year. Capacity is 11 Liters of oil.

PSQ13 Cat Testing

This week I have learned a lot about the hydraulic system on a cat excavator. I have done testing of the hydraulic pressure relieve in the pilot system and cycle times in the system. I have also measured and figured out how many miles per hour the tracks went and compared it with the set times in the service manual. This week has been a good week and I have learned a lot.

SPQ13 Kenworth

This week I have learned a lot about factory line and how they can run efficiently. I went on a tour of the Seattle Kenworth factory and learned about how they have the assembly line set up. I think it was nice to see how easy and straight forward everything looked as it was being put together. Now I can see all of that aspect of diesel in a different way.

SPQ13 Welding

This week I have learned several new things. I have learned how to operate an excavator and have bad a lot of practice using all of the controls. I have also learned how to mig weld and the different ways to do that. And finically I have learned how to silver Souter. I need a little more practice adjusting the flame and peeping the material.

SPQ13 B&G Machine

This week has been a real fun week and I have learned a lot. Visiting B&G Machine was a huge part of what I learned. I have learned about the business side of B&G and how everything works and really amazed in the system they have and how they all work together in one big group. I have also learned about the precision work that goes into redoing an engine from crank shaft to the cylinder head. I also liked how we went over the more power over the manufacture limit the less reliable the engine becomes because its not built to handle anything more the what it originally had.

SPQ13 Hydraulic Schimatics

This week I have learned a lot about hydraulic schematics symbols and how the schematics are not always right as demonstrated in class today. What got me at first was that I was not looking at the schematics like they could be wrong. After staring at the schematic confused for a few minutes. Jeff brought out a user manual that went with the schematics that helped me to understand the system better and how it worked. In the end the schematic was badly done and didn't show proper supply to the main pumps. So from now on I will not only rely on schematics supplied by the manufacture but also learn how to draw my drawn my own picture of the schematics and how it all works.

SPQ13 Hydraulics

This week I have learned a lot about hydraulics. I have learned all the different symbols for different parts on the schematics. One of the biggest things I have learned is the dangers involved in the hydraulic systems. You could have a high pressure oil puncture to the hydraulic system failing and a bucket or whatever the hydraulic system may be holding up can come smashing down quicker then you can react.
